Nominate an Innovator!

February 10, 2011

Our March 6 film screening of Titans of Yoga is set!

A very cool thing we are planning is that immediately following the screening will be a Panel Discussion with the topic of Innovations in Sharing Yoga. So, non-traditional venues and non-general student populations are the focus. If you or someone you know is a yogi bringing the gift of yoga to others in unique ways, please drop me a line (milwaukeeyoga@gmail.com)! We are looking for a panel of 5-6 yogis who have blazed their own trail in this way. Do you bring yoga to special populations like the elderly, folks with a particular disorder, children, the homeless, or people with specific occupations? Or do you know someone who does? Please do tell!

After a few excellent brainstorming sessions around our brand personality and name we are now the omTownYogis!

This name was chosen for its reflection of our mission and organizational personality, both inside and out. Some of those characteristics could be described like:

~ a hub for yoga practitioners, teachers, and the simply yoga-curious
~ fun and accessible
~ “standing on the shoulders of the past”
~ a community
~ locally & globally relevant

This name change will eventually mean a new web site (including a redirection of this blog page) and Facebook group. We’re working on a logo as well. Stay tuned!

Teachers Are Students, Too!

January 27, 2011

Here is another opportunity to attend a few local sessions designed for yoga instructors only at Haleybird Studios! Three workshops are:

Feb 13 How To Begin Using Anusara’s Universal Principles of Allignment with Tammy Limbach

April 3 Yoga Therapy: Healing through the Chakras with Biz Casmer

May 1 Hands on Adjustments with Meg Galarza

For more info on pricing, times and registration go
to Haleybird Studios.

3 great opportunities for yoga teachers looking for more classes to lead:

1) On-site Corporate Class at a friendly local business located in Brookfield. Your commitment would be to lead a basics/introductory series of 6 weekly 60-minute sessions, from 5-6 pm in general Hatha practice. Specific day of the week is flexible at this point and may depend on your availability. Mats, belts & blocks will be provided for the students, estimated at about 10 total. Pay is $225 and the series would take place in March or April. This opportunity is open exclusively to Certified Yoga Instructors. Please contact Claire at myclairestillman@gmail.com or 414.303.5915 if you are interested.

2) Yama Yoga Noon Express Class, Mondays 12-1, starting as soon as possible through June or July. Pay is on a per-student basis. Please contact Marietta at marietta@yamayogastudio.com if you are interested.

3) Meta House volunteer yoga instructor for staff yoga, short or long-term basis. Weekly sessions have been at 4 pm Thursdays, but if that time does not work for you, it is adjustable. This non-profit organization does invaluable work in our community and the staff, who take on a great deal of emotional burden in their jobs, truly LOVE their new yoga classes. The classes have been gentle, basic hatha as most of the students are quite new to yoga. Their teacher (Claire!) is on hiatus at this time due to being overly pregnant!! This is a wonderful opportunity to practice karma yoga with the highly appreciative and deserving folks at Meta House. Please contact Claire at myclairestillman@gmail.com or 414.303.5915 if you are interested.

Important milestones have been quietly reached in the months since our incredible Milwaukee Yoga Meetup/Global Mala event last fall. In particular, we now have an Advisory Board and a 2011 Strategic Plan including re-branding our group (new name, logo, color palette, etc.), and goals around teacher & public events, and a new, comprehensive web site. Our mission remains the same —benefiting yoga teachers and our community — and teacher involvement will continue to be key to our success.

It is going to be a GREAT year for our teachers & community. Stay tuned on how to take advantage of this group and how to be involved!!!

Come to Centennial Hall in the Milwaukee Public Library (733 N 8th St) for an unforgettable concert with Ragani. Register at BreatheWisconsin.org
